Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Tunnel Influent Pump Station

Integrated Design Engineers was hired by contractor Hensel Phelps Construction to provide value engineering and a redesign for the Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant tunnel influent pump station. The station is an integral part of the Kaneohe-Kailua Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment project in Hawaii.

The pump station building extends to approximately 80-ft below grade with office and control rooms extending up to 48-ft above ground level. The structure will contain equipment to pump influent-effluent wastewater from the connecting tunnels of the Kaneohe-Kailua wastewater project.

IDE also designed the value engineering redesign of the station’s above-ground structure using precast walls, columns, beams and floor units, which saved tremendous time and labor for the project.

IDE was also responsible for the design of both temporary and permanent connections for mechanical equipment and pipes to the structure, and the design of self-supporting racks and platforms and crane runways.
