Cultural House of Cards by David Franklin
As described by artist David Franklin, Cultural House of Cards "symbolizes the fragile cultural structure we build together in our societies, and the beauty within each part of it."
Installed on the grounds of the Green Hill School, a medium/maximum security Department of Corrections facility that provides residents with educational and vocational opportunities, the sculpture looks like something residents might build with their own deck of cards inside the facility.
idE designed the foundation and structural connections between each of the sheet aluminium cards to ensure the house remains standing.
“The idea of the sculpture is to remind the viewer of the potential power we have when we work together as a diverse community, and to not let our differences allow us to fall apart.”
