Seattle Fire Station 32 Structural Assessment
Integrated Design Engineers performed a thorough structural assessment of Seattle Fire Station 32 as part of the City of Seattle's on-call services contract with ARC Architects. This assessment included a seismic upgrade study for the apparatus bay and the station tower, focusing on achieving immediate occupancy performance during potential earthquake events. IdE's evaluation revealed that the building lacks a complete lateral load path, which could significantly affect its performance in seismic situations. To address this concern, we provided conceptual details for structural enhancements, including the strengthening of the roof diaphragm, secure attachment of the diaphragm to shear walls, and addition reinforcements to the roof and exterior walls.
