Soon there'll be a second hotel on the site of the ancestral home of the San Diego Padres. Dubbed "Lane Field South," a nod to the original ballpark that existed there between the years 1937 and 1957, the new InterContinental Hotel is the second phase of the Port of San Diego's North Embarcadero Lane Field Visionary Plan to revitalize the waterfront along the San Diego Bay. Phase one, the dual-branded Bayfront SpringHill Suites Residence Inn hotel and two-acre public park, opened early 2016.

Integrated Design Engineers is the Structural Engineer of Record for the Lane Field project. For the past four years, we worked with John Portman & Associates architects and Hensel Phelps Construction Company to bring the plans for the site to life.

This September saw an exciting moment for the project, when our friends at Hensel Phelps Construction completed a continuous 24-hour pour of Lane Field South's concrete mat slab. The crew worked until 2am on a Sunday morning, pouring a total of 8,100 cubic yards of concrete at the site.
