Lane Field South

This 630,000-sf, 400-key hotel with three levels of underground parking by InterContinental Hotels Group has topped out 18 stories above the San Diego Bay waterfront. The project is located next to popular tourist attractions USS Midway Museum and Broadway Pier.

As Engineer of Record, Integrated Design Engineers developed the structure design for the building. The basement is entirely in the water table and built with waterproofed walls and ground anchors to resist the buoyant force of the ground water. Two ballrooms, six meeting rooms, two restaurants, and a pool terrace created the need for long spans of concrete and steel elements to deliver the owner’s special intent. Poor soil conditions and high seismic potential created a complicated lateral system with dual cores and offset podium walls. idE is also providing construction administration services during construction.

The hotel, known as BRIC Phase 2, is part of the Port of San Diego's North Embarcadero Visionary Plan and is the sister project to 16-story BRIC Phase 1, also designed by Integrated Design Engineers.
